Trisha Yates was a student at Grange Hill from 1978-1982, played by Michelle Herbert. Trisha is the daughter of Mrs Yates, the younger sister of Carol Yates and the older sister of Jenny Yates. Trisha's best friends are Ann Wilson, Judy Preston, Cathy Hargreaves and Sudhamani Patel and her friends are Susi McMahon, Pamela Cartwright, Tucker Jenkins, Alan Humphries, Benny Green, Tommy Watson, Joseph Hughes and Simon Shaw. In Series 2, she had a relationship with Gary Hargreaves.
Character History
Series 1 (1978)
Trisha is constantly in trouble for wearing make-up and flouting uniform regulations. Eventually Mr Mitchell has had enough and writes to her parents. Trisha intercepts the letter and runs away from school; she meets up with Benny and they talk about their problems. In the science lab the school mouse escapes and Trisha's friend Judy Preston buys a replacement hoping no-one will know the difference.
Series 2 (1979)
Trisha befriends Cathy Hargreaves and goes out with Cathy's older brother, Gary. Trisha discovers Simon Shaw can't read and tries to teach him; Simon is packed off to a special school when it emerges he is dyslexic. Trisha and Cathy are suspended for their part in the occupation of the secretary's office.
Series 3 (1980)
Trisha defies the lunchtime ban on visiting the local precinct. Mr Sutcliffe catches her but lets her off when she tells him she was buying an engagement present for him and Miss Mooney. She helps renovate the outdoor centre and when the project is axed, she suggests they share Brookdale's centre.
Series 4 (1980-1981)
The friendship between Trisha and Cathy is strained when Trisha is elected to the school council and spends an increasing amount of time fighting new disciplinary measures. Soon they drift apart completely and Cathy goes off the rails. Trisha is furious when Mrs McClusky reinstates school uniform.
Series 5 (1982)
Trisha makes her final appearance in the school revue where she manages to humiliate three of the teachers (Hopwood, Baxter, Sutcliffe) with her dog through hoop act.
